Blind Idiot God - Blind Idiot God (1987)

Coming out of Brooklyn by way of St. Louis, the power trio Blind Idiot God had a distinctive, all-instrumental sound influenced by the noisy psychedelia of Blue Cheer,Jimi Hendrix, and The Velvet Underground, as well as heavy metal, punk rock and the more modern guitar explorations of Glenn Branca and Sonic Youth; in addition, the group incorporates New Orleans funk and dub reggae.

Guitarist Andy Hawkins, bassist Gabe Katz, and drummer Ted Epstein debuted in 1987 with a self-titled effort for SST; they switched to Enemy in 1989 for the album Undertow and the EP Purged Specimen. Blind Idiot God lay low for a few years, then found a new label (Avant) and resurfaced in 1993 with Cyclotron. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
